Liz Makarra
Liz came to Waikiki Health in 2013 and has been member of Waikiki Heath’s Leadership team since 2017, serving as the Director of Compliance, Resilience and Community Wellness. Liz oversees the Compliance, Safety and Emergency Preparedness Programs, she developed the “Waikiki Health Matters” employee wellness program, co-implemented the Waiwai Ola Emergency Department Reduction Program, and manages the WH Tobacco Treatment Program.
Liz has been facilitating Community Health Center Emergency Preparedness trainings for HI FQHCs annually through the Hawaii Primary Care Association (HPCA) since 2017 on how to operationalize the CMS EP Final Rule, including the creation of a 6-part “Emergency Preparedness 101” webinar series available on the HPCA learning platform. In 2023 and 2024, Liz presented at the California Primary Care Association’s Emergency Preparedness Symposium on, “Complying with Emergency Preparedness Rules at Your Health Center.” Liz was awarded the 2021 Emergency Manager Award from the Healthcare Association of Hawaii.
Dedicated to community service, Liz has volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club of Hawaii since 2010, mentoring youth with college preparation skills. She serves as a Corporate Board Director for the Boys and Girls Club, a member of the Executive Committee and holds the Secretary officer position. Born in Houston, Texas and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada – Liz graduated with honors from the Lethbridge College with a major in Communications in 1999.
