Sheila administers all aspects of Waikiki Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). She oversees the agency’s growing family of primary care clinics and outreach programs, targeting medically underserved populations. Sheila joined Waikiki Health in 2008, and has more than 30 years of experience in the health care field. She directed Waikiki Health’s many expansion initiatives, increasing the number of exam rooms at Ohua Clinic, adding PATH Clinic and Next Step Shelter as additional service sites, and establishing the agency’s Medical and Dental Clinic in McCully-Moiliili. These and other advances, including the agency’s acquisition of a Patient Transport Vehicle, will enable Waikiki Health to accommodate more patients and increase access to care.
Previously, Sheila held the position of Director of Preventive Health at Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center; and served as a Clinical Dietitian for Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children. She also was an Assistant Professor at the University of Hawaii, and has authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications related to community-based chronic disease intervention.
Sheila received her Master’s Degree in Public Health from the University of Hawaii and a B.S. in Pre-med/Nutrition from Whittier College. In recent years she received a Weinberg Fellowship and graduated from the UCLA Johnson & Johnson Health Care Executive Program. She also received a “City and County of Honolulu: Hawaii’s Inspiring Women” award, among other citations. Sheila is past Board Chair of the Hawaii Primary Care Association.
